CRITICS' COMMENTS

„ The performance turned out to be a brilliantly, without pretence played show in which we don´t know what should be more admired - the actors talent for brilliant transformations, the marvellous adaptation of the text (…), or the asceticism of the set and the costumes in which changing a hat or bending and straightening ones knees create a quite different, undoubtedly recognizable character.”

Review „Rzeczpospolita”

„Great fantasy and invention in building up the stage situation, (and) making use of all the comic mechanisms result in a laughter from the audience that doesn´t stop, even for a while. In addition, the set, costumes and requisites are scarce, so the whole weight of amusing the spectator lies on the actors.”

SYNOPSIS

"Scapen’s Imprishines" is made in dell´arte style. In the original version there are 14 persons, typical for dell´arte performances. In this adaptation the four actors of the Montownia Theatre perform most of them.

During their respective father´s absence, the two sons decide to get married. Their two servants help them. Sylvester helps Oktav and Scapen helps Leander. Unfortunately, their fathers unexpected return does not allow them to fulfil their plans. Moreover, the fathers oppose their sons marriages. The whole play is a show of Scapen´s cleverness…
